Have you ever thought what’s better, a trimester or semester?

There are pros and cons in having both. For example, a trimester is divided into three terms with each term being approximately 60 days in length.  Students take five classes per trimester which are equivalent to one semester class. Classes that meet for two trimesters are equivalent to a year long class. Some classes might meet for all three trimesters, each trimester is about 12 weeks.

Pros to having trimesters is students have the potential to earn 7.5 credits per year and if a student loses credit, they can recover it, not having to wait until next school year to retake the class. The cons of having a trimester is switching classes frequently and having to learn the material in have fast pace. Other cons may be not having enough time to get to know your teacher or the teacher not having enough time to get to know their students. Starting over again getting use to the classroom environment.

On the other hand, semester are divided up into two terms. Classes last all year long.

The pros of having semesters are more contact time with students increases, matches up with dual credit courses. Students takes seven classes instead of five. More curriculum can be covered throughout the year. It is similar to college classes. Students are able to get to know their teacher. Students have the same classmates in their class. The cons are the classes are shorter, less flexibility with schedule.  Students can only retake a class in the next school year.
